When you cross the bridge to Hilton Head Island or drive over the old Woods Memorial swing bridge in Beaufort and look out across the miles of sparkling oyster beds, what comes to mind? I think of a crackling fire with folks standing around anticipating those sweet, briny oysters fresh from the Chechessee. There’s nothing better than an oyster roast down by the river bank on a chilly afternoon.
For Paula Deen, those oysters are not just about inviting folks over for a roast or making Aunt Peggy’s bisque. She’s going to use her shells for sculpting and bejeweling decorative things, such as this bust she created for her son, Bobby.
